The quote, "All great achievements require time" (Maya Angelou) could double as a philosophy for the LA-based non-profit Crossing the Digital Divide. At Crossing the Digital Divide, co-founded by Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Kathleen Patton, the goal is to give individuals who are recovering from drug addiction and/or incarceration the chance to reshape their lives by taking computer-training courses. Students receive the latest information on computers, and with today's technological revolution, a myriad of job opportunities often open up to students. With time and hard work, the students can graduate and begin their new journeys with confidence and thorough training.
For more than four years, Ms. Kathleen Patton and the other hard-working professionals at Crossing the Digital Divide have shaped people who have no experience with computers into tomorrow's leaders in the technology industry through their hands-on computer training.
Under the direction of Kathleen Patton, industry professionals, invaluable volunteers, private donors, staff members, and high-achieving students have helped make Crossing the Digital Divide a growing success. The mayor of Los Angeles recognized crossing the Digital Divide as an award-winning non-profit organization, which now has three training centers to assist in the career goals of high-risk individuals in recovery.
Prior to founding Crossing the Digital Divide, Kathleen Patton was a writer and activist beginning her first NPO in her early twenties. Kathleen Patton, an English lit major, was also an accomplished athlete competing as a youth on swim teams, softball, and volleyball teams.
